Emily Cartmell, Osteopath.

Emily is a dedicated osteopath who combines her passion for the principles of osteopathy with her scientific background. With a keen eye for three-dimensional anatomy, she uses logic to analyze the body’s structure and function.

Originally from Britain, Emily graduated from Durham University in the UK in 2005, with an integrated Master’s degree in Chemistry. This rigorous training honed her ability to understand, analyze, and visualize complex concepts to things one cannot see, skills that have proven invaluable in her osteopathic practice.

After working in the pharmaceutical industry for a few years, Emily completed a 500 hour yoga teacher and yoga therapy course in London in 2009, in the tradition of the renowned teacher, T Krishnamacharya. It was yoga which ultimately led Emily to pursue an interest in understanding the human body and develop a passion for osteopathy.

Emily completed her integrated Master’s degree in Osteopathy at the European School of Osteopathy in 2013, and has been practicing in New Zealand for over a decade. Emily’s approach to osteopathy is gentle and effective. She carefully assesses each patient, creating a mental picture of their musculoskeletal system to pinpoint the root cause of their discomfort. Her understanding of anatomy and physiology allows her to identify underlying issues that may not be immediately apparent.

The root cause may be in a different place than what might be expected and the effects may be more than what the person can feel. Emily uses predominantly more gentle osteopathic techniques and does not do any ‘clicking’ of joints. She treats anyone aged 10 and above.

Emily’s practice is rooted in her deep understanding of the human body. She is also a keen dancer and has done different types of dancing over many years, most recently Cuban salsa. Her early interest in yoga and dance has further enriched her knowledge and appreciation for the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit.
